]]>The breeze from the lake, and the olive trees under the sun: Malcesine awaits you in this enchanted setting. It’s one of the pearls of Lake Garda and the perfect destination for your next holiday of relaxation, sport, and sustainability.
We are located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, where the Veneto borders with Trentino. It is here that, suspended between the water of the lake and the mountain, the medieval village of Malcesine develops around the Scaliger Castle, the symbol of the Venetian town. Getting here means walking through the characteristic cobbled alleys and squares, passing through suggestive doors and archways, and discovering tiny, colorful shops, ateliers, and restaurants. The gaze flows between the picturesque views of the historic center to the rocky spur on which the Castle stands, from the small port and the beaches to the top of Mount Baldo. And this is how, in an instant, the irresistible charm of Malcesine conquers you.
What to do and see in Malcesine? Despite the village’s small size, there are countless activities to try and monuments to admire. There really is something for all tastes!
You certainly cannot miss Scaliger Castle. Now also a renowned location for weddings, it’s the seat of the Natural History Museum of Monte Baldo and Garda. Inside there is the former gunpowder magazine, dedicated to W. Goethe. The room preserves the drawings made by the poet on the occasion of his journey in Italy. After visiting the interior, you can climb the tower: a panoramic point that leaves you breathless!
Always in the historic center, you can also visit the Palazzo dei Capitani, the seat of the Scaligeri governors and, later, the Captain of the Lake. It was built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries on top of ancient Roman buildings.
Just 4 kilometers from Malcesine’s center, the small village of Cassone overlooks the lake, in a truly picturesque atmosphere. But what makes Malcesine even more unique and special is the nature that surrounds it and which offers endless possibilities for outdoor experiences. A must for all travelers who pass through here is the cable car. In a few minutes, you will reach the 1800 meters of Monte Baldo, aboard rotating cabins that offer a 360-degree panorama. You can carry your bike with you, then go downhill, and follow the various high-altitude itineraries. Otherwise, you can venture into the various walking paths to discover the mountain. Mountain biking, trekking, but also water sports, and paragliding. What will you choose?
There is one accommodation that fits perfectly into the atmosphere and nature of Malcesine. It is Elle Ecoholiday, a refuge where you can feel safe, switch off and enjoy a reserved and environmentally conscious holiday. Wood, stone, and natural fibers are the elements that the hosts chose to create each space of the facility, powered by solar energy.
The rooms are furnished and fully equipped to ensure maximum comfort and minimum environmental impact. The swimming pool is in the middle of the luxuriant garden and the beautiful centuries–old olive grove, perfect for a moment of peace and relaxation under the sun’s rays. Spending your holiday at Elle Ecoholiday you can also start the day with an excellent “à la carte” breakfast which includes organic and local products.
Experience the beauty of Malcesine and rediscover contact with nature and relaxation at Elle Ecoholiday!

]]>The article Sabina: a land to discover among olive groves and ancient villages was originally posted on Ecobnb.
]]>Millennial olive trees, gentle hills where small medieval villages climb and a millenary history. This is Sabina, a territory with a unique charm that embraces Lazio, Umbria and Abruzzo. Land of the ancient Sabine people, today it is still a little known place, but able to surprise with the colors of nature, the tranquility of its villages and its gastronomic produces.
Photo via Canva Pro
At the gates of Rome and nestled between the Tiber river, the Nera river and the Marche Apennines, Sabina is still a predominantly rural region dedicated to the cultivation of olives. In autumn the hills come alive as never before: the olive groves are colored, the olives begin to ripen and it is time to harvest. If you decide to visit the territory in this period you can then attend the processing phases that lead to the creation of a precious oil, gold of Sabina area. But it’s always time to visit it: you can discover the Oil Road and enjoy delicacies made unique by this healthy product with an unmistakable flavor.
The ideal starting point is the Oil Museum, located in Castelnuovo di Farfa. Here you won’t find the usual display of tools and objects of peasant life, bu you will able to immerse yourself and discover the civilization of oil and olive trees, starting to understand all the beauty of Sabina. From here you can reach some of the olive oil companies producing DOP extra virgin olive oil, such as La Mola, La Raja and Capo Farfa, exploring a sweet and enchanting territory and admiring ancient oil mills.
Almost all of them are surrounded by olive trees, some even by vineyards, all by the soft hills of this land: the villages of Sabina blend harmoniously with the surrounding nature and seem to invite you to stop, to slow down. Everyone has something to tell, but surely there are some that you can’t miss.

Fara in Sabina is among them. First of all there is the Farfa Abbey, a wonderful and enchanting Benedictine convent, founded in sixth century; but it’s with visit also for its historic center with truly picturesque and fascinating corners.

Due to its position between the Sabine Mountains and its churches, Poggio Catino is a must too. In Nerola you can find the magnificence of the Orsini Castle; on the wooded eastern side of Sabine Mountains there is the small village of Greccio, famous for its nativity scene. In Umbria there is Narni, with its alleys and archaeological sites, and Norcia.

Lots of food, lots of history and the unique charm of Italian villages. But in Sabina there is also a lot of nature! The Farfa Gorges will leave you speechless. It is a natural monument made up of bends and canyons and surrounded by lush vegetation; ideal for trekking lovers. For those who love walking in nature there is also Nazzano Tevere-Farfa Nature Reserve, where numerous birds regularly nest. If, on the other hand, you want to relax, I recommend the Turna Lake, an artificial basin with clear waters surrounded by woods. The villages of Colle di Tora and Castel di Tora overlook the lake.
Now you have an idea of the many things that await you in Sabina territory, among food, nature and villages. But where to stay without damaging the environment?
Here you can find two eco-friendly accommodations.

]]>The article Caldonazzo Lake, the Holiday for Slow Travelling lovers was originally posted on Ecobnb.
]]>We interviewed the owner of Eco-friendly Casa Sul Lago, a B&B on the shore of Lake Caldonazzo. An ideal place for an ecologic and slow holiday. A natural open-air museum in Trentino, following the curvy line of mountains and the deep valleys, for an holiday with lake view.
Lake Caldonazzo is in Valsugana, one of the most sustainable places in Italy. B&B Casa sul lago is located between two lakes and its owners (Alex and Alessandra) welcome all their guests in a comfortable and special atmosphere. Eco-sustainability is the keyword for the perfect lifestyle.
We met Alex who told us the history of his activity and showed how to be eco-friendly.
My wife’s parents they have been managing for 20 years another B&B in Levico Terme. So, we just inherited our experience. Everything began some years ago, when we decided to reorganize one room of our as holiday room. We had one child only it was ok but when the second one came, we decided to change it. 5 years ago, we completely reorganized the house, converting in a B&B. I personally managed all the works, in order to be careful to sustainable characteristics. Furthermore, as woodworker I concentrated myself on interior design.
Firstly, the roof is entirely made by wood, and we chose carefully all the materials used. The purpose was to keep a good level of performance for the energetic point of view. So, now the temperature cannot go beyond 14°C in winter, with heating off. While, in summer air conditioners are not always necessary. Furthermore, we installed solar and photovoltaic panels to get water and electricity.
Sustainable architecture, B&B Casa sul Lago
All the cleaning products are 100% natural – my wife is very strict about it. Moreover, all food products are organic, and we cook them at home: cakes, creams anything. we go shopping at Gruppo d’Acquisto Solidale di Caldonazzo, because of organic and high-quality products.
The main activity is 10 km away, in Calceranica al Lago, reachable by bicycle. “Arte Sella” is a fair of natural works of art, in a wood near Borgo Valsugana. The itineraries are different: the central part, near Malga Costa, where most of the works are collected; and a larger ring where you can see other works in a day rather than a half day. Tickets are sold all year round; you can buy them from us for a price reduction. They give you a clothespin and you can walk around to see all the artwork. The forest is very beautiful and collects different types of holly and broad-leaved trees, access is easy for the whole family.

Another green experience to do is tour of lakes by bike. The cycle path of Valsugana runs the entire west shore of Lake Caldonazzo, arriving in Pergine Valsugana. Here you can reach the Pergine castle, from which a dirt road starts to cross the shore of the other lake, that of Levico. This is called “the fishermen road” because of its water level. Once there you can take the cycle lane again and come back at Levico Terme. You can do it in half a day, and it is very easy for children too. furthermore, you can do it on foot.

There are several cycle and foot paths, in the area. Between the two lakes (Caldonazzo e Levico) there is an amazing panoramic path.
In Tenna, a little town; you can taste the vegan falvors in the restaurant “Veg Point”.
Caldonazzo lake (left) and Levico lake (right), divided by hill of Tenna
Yes, of course. Prices are also good for multi-day rentals. It is possible to try the new e-bike, this is a good opportunity for those who are not trained enough. With these new bicycles you can also try to follow more challenging routes. No more, flat and boring itineraries, but forests and mountain top.
There is also an agreement with the train, active in the summer (in the other months, it is necessary to check). A train carriage is used to transport bicycles, in this way, it is possible to go along cycle lane, take the train and then come back home.
The cycle path of Valsugana, photo by APT Valsugana Lagorai
There are only pedestrian paths. For example, the path of 100 steps, it links Calceranica to stones of the mountains on our head. This is a historical tour, crossing vineyards.
Kaiserjägerstrasse is another incredible experience. A road from Caldonazzo to Lavarone on the Asiago upland. It has been recognized as one of the 20 famous climbs in Trentino, overlooking an enchanting valley with lakes. In addition, you can go to visit the Malghe – where cheese is produced – and see the mountain pastures, stopping to eat in excellent restaurants.
Otherwise, I am used to promote a tour in the valley and Centa river. It follows the opposite itinerary, from Lavarone to Caldonazzo. The valley houses a lot of windmills, but the most amazing thing is The Valimpach Waterfall. It seems to be in the Lord of Ring book.
It means a service inspired an ecologic philosophy. This is a way of being not only a job. When I was a woodworker, I used to promote eco-sustainable furniture. Alessandra joined “Friday for Future” event in Trento. We just want to reach people that share this lifestyle as well. We want to promote it a concrete way, at home and in our B&B.
We are organizing home concert: in Easter period there will be a cello concert, in our garden. We are managing for others in summer. It is for free, in fact, this is not a way of profit, rather a way to keep house alive.
Moreover, we would build a terrace for breakfast, but it is not sure.
Simplicity and hospitality; engaging excursions and relaxing walks: B&B Casa sul Lago offers all this at the same time. The varied landscapes are the ideal destination for relaxing families and trekking or cycling. Is it your plan for the next green mini-vacation?
Book your lake view stay in the b&b that feels like home!

]]>A unique lake in the world that looks like a sea: Lake Baikal with its 25 million years and its maximum depth of 1642 meters is the deepest and oldest lake in the world and the largest fresh water lake in volume, representing 23% of the fresh water on the earth.
Finding yourself in front of this spectacle of nature, which freezes from May to November, is truly a unique emotion. We are in the wild and remote Siberia, which gives us here one of the most incredible and breathtaking beauties of the world, an immense lake with crystal clear waters full of life, surrounded by wild mountains, forests and rivers. Here you can make an exciting trip through the forests of taiga pulled by a sled of 12 Siberian huskies or walk on the frozen surface of the lake, where you can also play golf, observe the pretty wooden houses with the typical multicolored windows, discover the lake in an aerosphere and sight seals, sables and arctic foxes.

Lake Baikal has been a World Heritage Site since 1996 and is home to more than 2,500 species of plants and animals, 2/3 of which can not be found anywhere else in the world, thanks to the high level of oxygen in its waters. The pearl of Siberia is the home of the nerpa, the seal of the Bajkal, a small-scale endemic species with a dark gray coat and the Omul fish of the Bajkal.

Irkutsk is one of the main access gates of Lake Baikal and is a city rich in history. Walking around on foot, in a few hours we can visit the most interesting places of this destination, among the most popular in the region and among those who venture along the tracks of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Walking through the historic center we admire the characteristic wooden architecture, the Drama Theater, one of the country’s oldest drama centers, the open-air market where we can taste the famous “omul” fish of the Bajkal. The city is a great starting point to discover all the wonders of the lake.

Unfortunately, despite being UNESCO heritage and despite its isolated location, Lake Baikal is continually threatened by pollution and poaching. Preserving this wonder is a duty of all of us: we can help the WWF in its projects to safeguard this unique microcosm and respect it during our journey.
For a truly sustainable journey we must sleep in an eco-friendly accommodation. In this house located in an island of the lake and built in bio-architecture, we could know the authentic life of the Siberians, having lunch with the family and getting to know their animal friends.

]]>The article Holiday in Glamping: trendy and Zero Waste stay on Bled Lake was originally posted on Ecobnb.
]]>Slovenia often comes to mind when thinking about a full relax vacation, in an environment untouched by the frenzy of daily life. And “Slovenia” is usually connected with a specific place, maybe the most heavenly one: the Bled lake. Well, a few steps away from that astonishing location there’s the accommodation we want you to know: Hotel & Glamping Ribno. It is special not only for the natural frame hosting it and for the comforts offered, but mainly because it’s been certified as the first zero-waste hotel in Slovenia.
The accommodation offers two solutions for the stay, based on each one’s preferences. The most classic hotel, built in a very picturesque style, almost entirely covered with wood. Wide and fully-fitted rooms, wellness centre with several treatments, a top-quality and international restaurant. It’s also suitable for business meetings and trips, having some conference rooms.
And then the most uncommon hosting solution, but very trendy lately: glamping. What distinguishes the glamorous camping is the association between camping and luxury. How is it? At Ribno, it’s been done by building 6 cosy wooden tiny houses, made by local craftsmen. They’re built on or under trees and are named as 6 flowers of the area (as “Edelweiss” or “Slovenian orchid”). The welcoming intern of the houses – fitting up to 4 people – is completed by an outdoor wooden bathtub, besides the private bathroom. They’re made to be lived all year long, indeed there’s thermic insulation and the heating system. Glamping guests can use the spa and the common areas as well. And of course, also the great cuisine with typical dishes!
Hotel & Glamping Ribno is the very first and only zero-waste touristic accommodation in Slovenia.
“Zero Waste is the conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging and materials without burning, and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health ”.
This is the philosophy of a European project, which aims to guide the society to imitate nature’s cycles. These are sustainable in the sense that what’s a waste for one is someone else’s raw material. The project landed at the hotel and restaurant world thanks to an Italian initiative. Today, with the support of an organization called “Ecologists without Borders”, the goal is to transfer ecology’s know-how and experiences in Slovenia, and in the whole EU.
Ribno follows the project’s guidelines, not only doing what’s better for the planet but also increasing its guests’ satisfaction and wealth. How do they do? 90% waste recycling, measures for the consumption of water and energy that have brought 30% savings on them. Furthermore, they use things that allow for multiple consumptions, as bigger jars for jam or other foods at the restaurant, and they cooperate with local suppliers. Moreover, they try to motivate tourists to behave in a sustainable way, for example by turning off the rooms’ lights or taking only the food one will certainly eat.
National credit and pride, then. Indeed, the municipality of Bled is now on this path too. They want to become Zero Waste and have set the goal of 80% waste recycling by 2025.
You don’t want just some relax, do you? Fair enough: actually it’d be crazy to go visit a place like this one and not to explore it completely. Well, there we go with some proposals to make your stay by Hotel and Glamping Ribno more dynamic.
Right in the area of the facility, there are several opportunities: sport fields for beach volley, basket, and tennis; rent bikes; buy the permission for fishing at the reception. The hotel also offers discounts and reservations for other sport activities as rafting, canyoning, hiking, riding, and golf. Furthermore, Ribno is the ideal accommodation for trekking and cycle-tourism lovers. It is in a convenient location to access the walking and bike trails of the area, with the chance of booking guided trips through various panoramic paths.
Hotel and glamping Ribno is pretty close to the Slovenian alpine pearl of Bled lake, in the idyllic village namesake. The position – right outside a fir trees forest, filled with tweets – makes happy anybody who’s seeking for a stay in total connection with nature. The town of Bled is accessible by a shuttle service provided by the hotel, and it has tons of exciting experiences. Not to miss a boat trip from the shore to the small island in the middle of the lake, the only one in Slovenia.
In winter, the snowy landscape is filled up, thanks to the activities of the many neighboring ski areas. There’s the chance to practice ski, snowboard, sledge and snow rackets. Plus, the slopes of the Julian Alps are around one hour away by car (and you can purchase the ticket at the hotel).
Another interesting experience can be a ride on a white Lipizzaner horse. And finally, to end your perfect Slovenian vacation, you can’t miss tasting the kremna rezina or Bled cake, a creamy and delicious millefoglie pastry, made for the first time in the 50s in a bakery in the town.
The glamping houses
A dreamy hotel, the trendy glamping, the magic of the Bled lake, the call from nature and its beauty. Ribno is all of this and much more: the Zero Waste philosophy turns staying there in a choice that makes the environment as happy as you’ll be. Spring weekends have just begun and summer is really near: make your holiday as much memorable as eco-friendly by choosing Hotel & Glamping Ribno!

]]>The article Alto Garda: 10 reasons to return to one of the favorite destinations by foreigners was originally posted on Ecobnb.
]]>Every now and then we Italians forget about how beautiful our country is. On the other hand, Germans, Austrians, Swiss and Russians know it very well, and so every year they decide to enjoy the sun, good food and typical Italian hospitality in the pearl of Lake Garda. This destination, and in particular Alto Garda, is among the most popular ones among foreigners, who fill the suggestive places especially in summer, but also in winter.
The largest freshwater basin in the country and the high part embedded in the Dolomites has seen year after year a great growth of interest from international travelers, probably for its natural beauties, the possibility to try many outdoor activities or even for its flavors and wines. If you’ve already been there, you know what we’re talking about; if you have not seen this blue paradise surrounded by greenery yet, what are you waiting for?
For the first, the third or the umpteenth time, there is always a reason to visit the Alto Garda, divided between Lombardy, Trentino and Veneto. Here we tell you 10 of them, if we have forgotten some important let us know!
There is the castle of Arco, a beautiful frescoed manor, the Rocca of Riva del Garda, a defensive outpost on the shore of the lake, the medieval castle of Malcesine and the ruins of the Castle of Drena. Alto Garda holds beautiful castles, always set in breathtaking views.
The northernmost shore of Lake Garda offers its visitors several beaches where they can enjoy the sun. Small and stony or wide with grassy meadows, more or less frequented, they are always an oasis of relaxation. In Riva del Garda you can find the Sabbioni Beach, loved by foreigners but also by the local landscape that can be admired from here and for the many services offered; Corno di Bo ‘is instead a wilder beach, in Torbole, reachable only by bike or motorbike; the small beach of Navene, in Veneto, is far from chaos and really fascinating. Near the center of Limone, there is the Grostol beach, in gravel, comfortable and easy to reach.

Not only nature in Alto Garda: you can discover beautiful museums and fascinating places full of culture. In Riva del Garda the MAG – Museo Alto Garda awaits you, offering an interesting route between archeology and contemporary art that focuses on landscape. Very interesting is also Limone’s limonaia, one of the most ancient and characteristic citrus gardens of the lake, where the architecture has remained well preserved. Also in Limone sul Garda there’s the Museum of Fishermen where you can relive the ancient traditions of the place.
Arco, one of the main towns of Alto Garda, has been the capital of climbing for several years, but the whole upper area of Lake Garda offers hundreds of routes and walls of all levels of difficulty. Alto Garda is a paradise for all climbers, from beginners to experts!
Living in contact with nature makes us more aware. This is perhaps why Alto Garda seems particularly attentive to the environment and offers more and more sustainable tourism proposals. For example, there are many hotels that try to reduce their ecological footprint. In Riva del Garda, waiting for you, nestled among the vineyards, there’s Eco Hotel Primavera, in Malcesine, with a beautiful garden, the Eco Hotel Ariston. Then there is the Eco Hotel Bonapace in Torbole, with a beautiful terrace with a view, and many others in the surroundings.
Perfect cycling paths for the whole family, routes that wind through the mountains to be covered by mountain-bike: Alto Garda is a paradise for all those who love to enjoy their cycling holidays. That’s why all the international travelers who arrive will bring their own equipment or rent it on site.
Living a holiday in Alto Garda means experiencing nature, because it is always there, close at hand. There are so many open spaces to admire, in our eyes there is always a little humanized and very natural territory. But there are also small hidden treasures, surprises to be discovered. Tanella Cave opens on the slopes of Monte Baldo and develops in the heart of the mountain for 400 meters: an incredible and suggestive journey through the underground world. Varone Waterfall leaves you breathless, we assure you. In fact it is one of the most beautiful natural attractions of all Alto Garda.
We are only at the beginning, but it is certain that it will become a truly unique and spectacular cycle path. It will be possible to travel all around the lake, this year the first stretch of 2 kilometers has been inaugurated, overlooking the lake, that from Capo Reamol to Limone goes towards the Trentino border.
Here, among the blue waters of the lake, the olive groves and the scent of citrus fruits there is so much to discover also from the gastronomic point of view. From Trentino’s salted meat to Veneto’s extra virgin olive oil region and Lombardy’s honey, passing through the ever-present lake fish: there are many local produces to taste.

Leaving from Reykjavik, in less than one hour you can reach the first destination: Þingvellir national park, UNESCO heritage site. You can walk through a canyon and look at the suggestive view. At the Geysir you can see the inspiring phenomenon of an eruption of hot water and vapour. Continuing with the car you can see Gullfoss, the first of many waterfalls that are the characterising symbol of Iceland. A unique place is the small Skalholt cathedral, very isolated and with a cute house typical of the Icelandic rural landscape. Going toward Eyrabakky, the small city where you can spend the first night, it is possible to visit Kerið, an unusual volcanic crater, for a fee.

SECOND DAY
We start our day ready to see the delights of the deep South. Our first stop is Seljalandsfoss, (already mentioned in the 20 spectacular waterfalls of Europe), Singular because in the mildest periods you can walk behind it. Also, nearby you can go to visit Gljufrabui, a waterfall hidden inside a cave. The next waterfall, Skogafoss, it’s one of the most majestic in Iceland. You can get to it with stairs and from the top you can see all the landscapes (that is green during the summer). Solheimajokull, our next destination is a glacier where you can walk on it. There are tours that take you for a walk on the glaciers. Our last sight for today it’s the unique beach with black sand, Reynisfjara, where there are basalt columns and at the end of the beach you can see the Dyrhlaey natural arch. Some periods of the year, if you are lucky you can spot the puffins, cute birds, symbol of Iceland. At night you can find accommodation in the city more at South of Iceland, Vik.

Here you can see the huge monument in the open air “Eggin I Gledvik” that represents all the eggs of every bird species that you can find in Iceland. Dettifoss is absolutely one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, its majesty, impress anyone who sees it. Going forward, you pass the geothermic area of Myvatn lake, where you can admire the classic moonscape, with peculiar rocks formations because of the volcanic attivity. Next to each other we can see Vity crater, Hverarond – the area with the most geothermic activity where there is the Sulphur’s smell- and the blue lake, with a crystal-clear colour due to the super-hot water that comes from a spring nearby. Can’t-miss for the lovers of Game of Thrones is the Grjotagja cave, set of the famous tv series. Last but not least, you can visit the wonderful Goðafoss waterfall, or also known as the waterfall of the Gods thanks to a legend and you can finish your day in the city of Akureyri.

Our next stop is Öndverðarnes, where we can see a huge orange light house and the view from the cliffs it’s amazing. Skarðsvík is the beach that you can visit nearby if you want to enjoy the sea breeze sitting on the gold sand. Another place that takes your breath away thanks to the tall cliffs with unique shapes is Arnarstapi. Rauðfeldsgjá, is recommended only to the bravest people because is a tough hike on a glacier between two stones walls. Going further with the car, you can reach through a dirt road, Búðakirkja: a small black church in the middle of nowhere just near the cliff is something unreal. Gerðuberg is a suggestive wall made with tall basalt columns, fun fact: the cathedral of Reykjavik was inspired by the volcanic basalt, typical Icelandic phenomenon.

]]>Stunning scenery, romantic villages and lake view restaurants: Lake Como needs few presentations. Known throughout the world, loved by many VIPs, today we discover some of its most charming corners for an unforgettable weekend, always with an eye for the environment!
It is one of the most beautiful monuments in northern Italy and is one of the symbols of the city that gives its name to the lake. It is the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy, an impressive monument that with its façade and its interior tells the story of the city.
On board a small train, from the town you arrive at the village of Brunate, which offers a panoramic spot on the lake of Como very impressive. A 7 minute trip on a rail that reaches the maximum slope permitted, that is, 55%.

Here, where the branches of Como and Lecco join, we find the magical Bellagio where colorful lanes that climb up the promontory, elegant gardens, boutiques and craft stores will leave us speechless.

Take a ferry from Ostuccio and reach the only island of Lake Como: in two hours you will discover all its lush nature, the magical views over the lake and what remains of a Roman Basilica destroyed in 1169 when the island was raced to the ground by the comaschi, ending the prosperity of the island, once a political hub, religious center and military strategic point.
A weekend on Lake Como is another opportunity to discover and live to sustainable tourism: just choose one of the many eco-friendly accommodations in the area. Being an organic farm or a B & B, you can experience a more authentic and just holiday!

Cleverly restored, this picturesque fishing village still retains its authentic flavor. Walk through the Lovers Way, which runs along Lake Como, then stop along the Riva Grande to enjoy the sunset while sipping a glass of wine.
During a weekend on Lake Como you can also discover a wilder and less well-known side. The Orrido di Bellano is a natural gorge, shaped for 15 million years, perched by the noisy stream Pioverna. Between cascades and walkways set on rocks, the show is truly indescribable and impressive.

On Lake Como, two winds blow up: Tivano and Breva, which make the water mirror a favorite spot for kite surf enthusiasts, who meet in Dervio or Colico. All the schools in the area also offer basic lessons, for those who want to at least try surfing on Lake Water.
We can not miss the delights of the cuisine: in many restaurants or trattorias (better if they’re organic!) we can enjoy the risotto with peach fillets or one of the traditional dishes of Lake Como, for example the pasta with the lavarello bottarga or polenta of Bellagio.

At Tremazzina we can not miss a walk in the garden of Villa del Balbianello. This elegant and romantic residence was designed by Cardinal Durini in the 18th century, and over time it hosted many literate and travelers until his last owner, Guido Monzino, an adventurous explorer. The location, te interior furnishings and the large variety of garden plants make this villa a real gem, able to take your breath away.
