A perfect year-round climate, crystal clear sea and thermal waters, the mountains behind us and archaeological sites within walking distance: today we bring you to Loutraki, the popular Greek tourist destination, but that we’ll discover in our way, slowly and green.

Landscape near Loutraki, Greece

Loutraki overlooks the Gulf of Corinth, at the foot of Ierania mountains. It is a vibrant city of 10,000 inhabitants, only 4 kilometers from Corinth, and not far from Athens. Thanks to the presence of thermal waters, known since the times of the ancient Greeks, Loutraki has become a popular destination and the town is not lacking in bars, restaurants and many entertainment possibilities.

Loutraki

Although it might be perfect to spend a fun evening, that’s not why we’re here. What interests us is first of all the nature that surrounds the city. Our starting point is immersed in a large pine forest overlooking the sea, in what looks like an earthly paradise. It is an organic farm, where you can easily go back to childhood and where the days are governed by the rhythm of nature. We are at Laka Zeza, a place far away from mass tourism, where traditional cuisine, the family environment, the sun, the sea and the forest will greet you for a sustainable and eco-friendly holiday.

From here, you spoiled for choice. Because in this corner of the world, travelers have the opportunity to really play many activities that approach you to nature. There are many paths along the sea or climbing the mountains that can be discovered on foot or by mountain bike, and the forest is perfect for walking out of the sun, with the opportunity to enjoy an incredible variety of birds. Then there is the sea. Small bays and coves are waiting to be explored and the blue of the deep water hides many specimens of rare species, and so snorkeling is an unforgettable experience.

Spending a holiday in Loutraki, immersed in its nature, it also means being in the center of classical Greece. The resort is an excellent starting point to visit Athens, Mycenae, ancient Corinth and the magical Heraion of Perachora (Hera sanctuary).

Heraion of Perachora

At Loutraki, the hectic pace of life slows down and the scents of nature intoxicate us. We are sure that the memories created here, among the sighting of a dolphin and wonder before an archaeological site, will never be forgotten.

A beautiful itinerary suitable for all families: San Candido-Lienz, between the Italian-Austrian border, along the Drava River, is an easy cycle path but offers fairytale landscapes. The whole cycle track is 366 kilometers long, arriving in Maribor in Slovenia. The first stretch of over 30 kilometers starting from the historic center of San Candido and you immediately immerse yourself in nature, between the sound of the river and the mountain view. In front of us, Mount Elmo, with its thick woods. We pass Prato alla Drava, the last village in Italy, a few minutes and we find ourselves in Austria. In an idyllic atmosphere, we cross small villages in the sun, at the slopes of the mountains. Thus we reach Lienz, the capital of Eastern Tyrol, at the confluence of Isel and Drava rivers. From here it is possible to go back aboard the beautiful trains of Austria’s railways, where it is easy to load bicycles.

3. Green relax in Carinthia

Cariniza is the sunniest and southernmost region of Austria, filled with lakes, skiing mountains, but also art cities such as Klagenfurt and Villach. Here you can find numerous eco-friendly accommodations immersed in the greenery, which offer the perfect location to unplug. Oasis of relaxation and nature suitable for the whole family. In the Alpen Pearl of Mallnitzthere’s the beautiful Alpengarten Hotel, offering comfortable spaces, a beautiful spa and numerous family rooms. The Kinderhotel Benjamin is the paradise for children and the perfect place to get the little ones to know the natural world.

4. Austria by bicycle, along the Danube

It is considered the most beautiful track across Europe: Danube Cycle-routes runs along the entire river, from its source in Germany, through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania, up to the Black Sea. We travel the Austrian stretch from Lienz to Vienna, which has no slopes and is perfect for the whole family. During the journey, we discover the Abbey of St. Florian, the largest baroque monastery in Upper Austria, with its incredible library that retains more than 140,000 volumes.

5. The Fairy Tale Mile and more

The Fairy Tale Mile, Trebesing, Austria

In Trebesing, the first children’s village in Europe, there is a truly unique playground-park that offers pure fun for the whole family. In the Fairy Tale Mile & Dragon Gorge there is a lot to discover, see, explore! The trip begins onboard the Taca Tuca tractor and continues for 3 kilometers in the woods, between gorges, suspended bridges, fairy tales, and a thousand attractions!

In Carinthia, in Falkert, they created a mountain trail dedicated entirely to Heidi‘s history. The trail is flat and is also suitable for younger children and strollers. Children will have fun discovering stories and fun facts through the 25 stages of the journey, each with a descriptive panel in Italian and German, the statues of the characters. There is also a lovely pond, the reconstruction of Heidi’s home and real goats!

In Arriach, we recommend the Roots Park, a large natural playground consisting of three paths winding through the woods, among wood sculptures and water games.

An idea to discover Milan in an unusual and green way? Sleep in an old organic farm surrounded by greenery. You wake up with the scent of nature, explore the surroundings by bike or by foot, pick your own organic vegetable and eat local, then reach the pulsating heart of the metropolis by bus and subway.

Milan's Duomo

Visit the beauties of Milan but starting from the countryside, immersed in the green of Nature, half an hour from Piazza Duomo. It does not seem possible, but it is.

In Cascina Santa Brera you can sleep long and quiet nights surrounded by the sounds of nature (scientific studies confirm the relaxing power of nature), wake up on a farm, leave the car and leave for an alternative visit of the metropolis. Here’s how to do it!

An organic farm in the South Park of Milan

An amazing farm holiday near Milan

In the heart of the Rural Park South Milan, about ten kilometers from the city center, you can spend a wonderful farm holiday, among vegetable garden’s scents and cycling tours. Cascina Santa Brera is a beautiful farm dedicated to sustainability. The accommodation consists of an old farmhouse restored with principles and materials of green architecture and 25 hectares of protected environment, cultivated with organic farming methods.

Irene welcomes you in the rooms and studios of the farmhouse, offering a total of 40 beds, and invites you to enjoy tasty dishes prepared exclusively with organic products grown on the farm or by other nearby producers.

Learning the biodiversity and adopting a vegetable garden

The accommodation usually organizes cultural activities and workshops for both children and adults: you can learn about agricultural life, organic farming, permaculture, you can learn to recognize and use the edible wild plants, to build houses in straw bales, while the children can take care of the animals, experimenting with earth the water, playing in nature.

Those who live near the farm can also take advantage of direct selling of eggs, mile, vegetables, meats, breads, jams and much more. You can also “adopt a garden“, it’s a beautiful project that involves the payment of a fee for the opportunity to access to the vegetable garden, and collect for yourself the vegetables for your own needs.

It is the right choice to get away from the city, but staying close to its comfort, and enjoy a holiday in nature, to discover the simplicity and richness of agricultural and sustainable living. An unforgettable farm holiday in a rural and welcoming environment.

By bike in the South Agricultural Park

Agriculture Park of Milan

The Agriculture Park of Milan embraces the city and comprises 61 municipalities. Country roads, cultivated land, farmhouses, but also castles and historical testimonies: the park is rich in treasures and surprises. This protected agricultural area is covered by numerous itineraries, both on foot and by bicycle, to represent the perfect out-of-town excursions.

Among the many trails that lead to the discovery of the park, we recommend Ciclovia del Naviglio Grande, to dive into the ancient Milan by pedaling along the left towpath and arriving in the suggestive Gaggiano.

Alternatively, the Via Lattea del Fai route is also very beautiful, created by the Italian Environment Fund: a 21km trail between farms, nature and historic buildings to discover Gaggiano and Cisliano.

Milan without a car is more beautiful

Who arrives at Cascina Santa Brera on foot or by bike is entitled to a 10% discount: an extra reason to discover Milan and its surroundings without a car. Thanks to buses, metros and the bike-sharing service, it’s really easy to move around and reach any destination. To get to the accommodation, you can take the Metro Line 3, either from the Duomo or Milan Central Station, towards San Donato Milanese, get off at the terminus and then take the Z420 bus to Melegnano until the La Rampina/Rocca Brivio station.

If you want to run Milan in Bicycle you can use BikeMi, the bike sharing service of Milan, that works both for traditional bicycles, as well as for electric bicycles or for children’s bikes.

The first 30 minutes of traditional bicycle use are always free!

BikeMi subscription (4.50 € per day) allows you to pick up your bicycle in a lot of stations in the city (at this link you can find the stations map with the information of the bicycles available in real time).
