Tourism is one of the most important industrial sectors in the world, but also one of the most impactful on the environment. Currently, for tourism companies, whether small or large, sustainability is a fundamental key element.

But what is meant by sustainability? The term sustainability indicates a development paradigm that integrates economic, social and environmental aspects, with a global perspective, to improve both the living conditions of populations and the maintenance of ecosystems.

For this reason, to date, the real challenge is related to sustainability, or rather the compatibility of the enterprise system with the surrounding systems, first the environmental ecosystem.

Starting from the concept of Corporate Citizenship, being a “good” member of the Community of which you are part respecting the laws and customs and actively contributing to its organic development, the company must operate with the perspective of the shared value to reach in balanced way social and economic objectives optimizing at the same time the ecological impact of the business choices.

Concretely what it must do is formally adhere to the values of sustainability; realize good practices so that you can improve the environmental impact of production activities and the work of collaborators; provide support to specialized organizations (non-profit) for the implementation of projects for the benefit of weak parties; report the activities of social and environmental importance, obtained over a certain period.

Unlocking Climate Resilience: The Crucial Role Of Sustainable Tourism

About the tourism sector, when it comes to sustainability, the situation becomes more complex because we are faced with numerous climatic events and not that inevitably pollute environmental, social and economic welfare. Therefore, tourism becomes sustainable when its development preserves the activities related to it with the aim of extending the life cycle of tourist resorts so that there is the possibility of offering a product that meets the expectations of tourists/consumers increasingly sensitive to the characteristics of natural and genuine products.

How Can Tourism Be Sustainable?

The World Tourism Organization’s Point of View

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) considers several points that a socially responsible investment (SRI) investor must follow to keep all this alive. For example: the necessary protection of the environment, compromised by carbon emissions, the minimization of energy consumption, and garbadges.

Finally, there is another pivotal point that acts on sustainable tourism, namely the relationship between host and guest and their behavior. For this reason, it is good to involve the local community, through a representative, consider the perceptions and opinions of the residents, and make the guest-tourists assume the right responsibilities to avoid a tourism without rules and sustainability.

Sustainable Tourism VS Responsabile Tourism
Differences Between Sustainable Tourism and Responsible Tourism

Well, yes, for the tourism sector sustainability is already the right answer!

Indeed, HR managers are mainly responsible for hiring human talent, welcoming new people onboard, and resolving any employee conflicts should they arise. But in practice, the actual HR manager’s responsibilities go beyond that and embrace a whole range of activities that seem to have nothing to do with HR. Well, at first glance, at least. After all, creating a welcoming, professional environment that minimizes employee turnover is also up to the human resources department. And with the younger, more environmentally conscious workforce already becoming a prominent part of the workforce, companies should adopt and nurture more eco-friendly initiatives than ever before. The good news is that late millennials and early Zoomers do not need much encouragement to follow the company’s eco policies. The downside is that embracing green habits in the workplace is sometimes more challenging than it seems, considering that we still rely on too many materials that aren’t precisely planet-friendly. But small steps matter, too! And here are some top, easy-to-set-up examples of eco-sustainable habits HRs can (and should) nurture at work.

Make Recycling Simple and Accessible

It’s hard to avoid the temptation of throwing a plastic container in the general bin if your employees have to climb a few dozen stairs or go outside to reach the dedicated plastic disposal box. Don’t turn trash sorting into an impossible quest! Make sure your office has all the classic disposal containers — paper, plastic, unsorted organics — in the areas where they make the most sense. Obviously, it would be best if you started with the kitchen. But there could be other rooms, including common work areas, where the essential trashcan trinity can also be helpful.

Aim for a Paperless Office

Speaking of paper trashcans, you will not need too many of those if you manage to set up a fully (or almost) paperless office. It’s actually surprising how many companies in today’s digitalized world still print so much — notes, memos, announcements, invoices, contracts, etc. Eliminating all unnecessary paperwork — meaning, literal paperwork — and going all-docs-digital will simplify a lot of operations in the company, help sustain the environment, and may even save some money in the process.

Also, try to get rid of all paper cups and encourage your employees to go with reusable mugs and dishes. Printing mugs with corporate logos is not expensive but does wonders for the environment. If eliminating all paper and plastic cups is not an option, go for recyclable materials at least.

Reevaluate Your Energy Consumption

Another great way to both consider the environment and save money is to take a good critical look at your energy consumption. You can start with small things like energy-efficient lightbulbs and move on to more large-scale initiatives, like assessing all of your office electronics. Even major companies like Walmart are investing in energy-efficient refrigerators with low imprints on the environment, and we all know how successful they are! You can adopt a similar approach and start replacing old equipment with new, more eco- and energy-efficient one. Again, you can start small — electric kettles, coffee machines, water coolers, and office fridges. Eventually, you can opt for more significant and critical equipment — from office computers to air conditioning systems and thermostats.

Keep Carbon Imprint in Mind

If your company has any fleet vehicles, it makes sense to opt for electric models. While not exactly a way to minimize energy consumption, electric cars reduce our carbon imprint, which is way more important today. If you do not have any corporate vehicles, you probably still collaborate with companies that do — be it food delivery services or mail couriers.

To encourage a consistent eco-friendly strategy in the workplace, it’s essential to collaborate with agencies that make environmental initiatives their priority. It does not mean you should instantly sever all ties with your favorite Thai food chain simply because one courier drives an old wagon. But it would help if you kept searching for ways to ensure all parties in your supply and production chains mind the environment as much as you do — this will undoubtedly help send the right message to your colleagues.

Invest in Eco Infrastructure

It’s hard to nurture eco-friendly habits at work without the proper infrastructure. Just like you can’t expect people to sort the trash without providing them with suitable containers, you cannot expect them to ride a bike to work if there is no parking lot for bikes. Of course, designing such infrastructure is not the HR department’s sole responsibility— but neither is searching for eco-friendly suppliers or replacing energy-consuming equipment.

Still, it is up to HR managers to think of these initiatives and take them to the right executives who can implement the change. So, take a good look at how many people are taking carbon-free transport to work and think if there’s a way to encourage more colleagues to do the same, like setting up a larger bike parking lot, for starters. That’s not too expensive, but it definitely promotes the right message.

Get a Plant

Better yet — get more than one! It seems like a trifle thing to do, but even NASA researches prove that plants can remove plenty of indoor air pollutants, and NASA should definitely know what they are talking about. Sure, no one expects you to turn your open space office into an impenetrable jungle, but a few plants here and there can become an excellent decor addition while nurturing eco-friendly policies and sending the right message, of course.

Make It Fun!

Even though your Gen Y and Z employees are more than happy to support eco-friendly initiatives without much encouragement, adding a playful element to the whole process can be very helpful. Besides, it is vital to inform other less eco-conscious staff members about the importance of sustainable habits in the workplace. Just don’t turn it into a boring lecture about how icebergs are melting and polar bears are dying. This is tragic, of course, but it’s not the best way to reach your colleagues. Instead, think of something more creative, like a week without plastic challenge — not just at work, but also at home. Make it a competition with prizes, if necessary. Initiatives like these are excellent because they perfectly follow the ‘show, not tell’ principle and appeal to our competitive spirits, which is fun and motivating.

Eco-Friendly Habits in the Workplace:

These are some universal examples to get started with, but the actual list can go on for pages. Of course, a lot will depend on your company size and business specifics, and if you feel that you can do more — go ahead, the sky is the limit!

Dentistry, like many other professions, faces challenges in achieving environmental sustainability due to the extensive use of single-use materials and traditional analog workflows. However, the advent of digital dentistry has brought about significant advancements, offering a promising solution to the sustainability dilemma.

In this article, we will explore the potential of digital dentistry in improving environmental impact, its impact on sustainability, and the importance of responsible utilization of these cutting-edge technologies.

Revolutionizing the Workflow: From Analog to Digital

The traditional analog workflow in dentistry involves numerous steps, including taking physical impressions, sending them to laboratories, and relying on casting and milling methods. On the other hand, digital dentistry, which can be covered by insurance that covers dental, allows for the acquisition of digital intra-oralimpressions, scanned models, and remote visualization and planning on devices. By eliminating the need for physical transportation and storage of models, digital dentistry significantly reduces the environmental footprint.

Digital Design for Sustainability

The digital design further enhances sustainability by streamlining the process of developing dental prostheses. In contrast to analog methods that require various materials and physical space for storage, digital design enables efficient image capture, cloud storage, and easy modifications, reducing waste and resource consumption.

Embracing Additive Manufacturing (AM)

Additive Manufacturing or 3D printing plays a pivotal role in sustainable dental practices. AM processes offer precise and efficient prostheses using materials like plastics, metals, and ceramics, allowing for intricate geometries and superior accuracy. Recent research has also shown that AM workflows are more sustainable compared to conventional fabrication methods.

Responsible Utilization and Understanding of Limitations

While digital dentistry holds immense potential, its successful implementation requires a comprehensive understanding of its applications and limitations. Dentists must exercise caution when choosing between digital and traditional methods, ensuring they select the most appropriate tools for each case. Improper utilization can lead to unnecessary environmental impacts, such as excessive material wastage or the use of unnecessary resources.

Striving for Improved Sustainability

To fully embrace digital dentistry’s sustainability benefits, dental professionals should consider the entire picture and adopt best practices. Some recommendations include:

  • Assessing the clinical workflow and identifying areas for sustainable improvements without compromising patient care.
  • Mastering the fundamentals and principles of digital dentistry to maximize its benefits in the dental practice.
  • Embracing curiosity and exploring new technologies that promote sustainable dental practices.
  • Critically evaluating the necessity of fully guided cases, opting for alternatives when appropriate.
  • Considering hybrid workflows that combine the strengths of analog and digital approaches until a confident grasp of predictable digital workflows is achieved.
  • Applying the Rs: Recognize, Reduce, Recycle, Repurpose, Rethink, and Rejoice – as guidelines for sustainable decision-making in dental practice.

Conclusion

Digital dentistry undoubtedly offers a pathway toward more sustainable dental practices. Its potential to reduce waste, minimize material consumption, and improve workflow efficiency is undeniable. However, the responsible and thoughtful utilization of these technologies is crucial to achieving the desired environmental benefits.

By embracing digital dentistry with a holistic approach, dental professionals can contribute to a greener future while providing exceptional patient care.

Shakespeare’s verses spoke volumes about the environment and environmentalism. William Shakespeare did not use these only because these terms hadn’t been coined as neologisms at the time but much later. However, Shakespeare did have environmentally aware views inasmuch as these blends well with our own perceptions of the environmental issues right before us in the 21st century.

He used to write at the time of early colonialism, capitalism, globalized trade which were beginning to extend Western and notions of conquering the world and nature globally. His own vivid imagination helped Shakespeare to respond to this staggering societal growth, by way of recognizing the limitations humans had to face up to in their exploitation. The bio-integrity of ecosystems had to be preserved for the benefit of human civilization but surely Shakespeare acknowledged the earth’s overwhelming power to demolish all human effort to dominate it.

William Shakespeare's book

Shakespeare’s books mirror the contemporary environmental awareness partly because he writes about the unusually changeable weather at the time, caused (as we now know) by the cooling of the hemispheres. There were references to drowning rains and killing ice which indicate how the Elizabethans were bewildered with these natural turbulences in annual seasons. Earth-shattering storms and shipwrecking tempests feature far too often to go unnoticed in Shakespeare’s books as well.

Today these references in Shakespeare’s verses align well with global-warming crisis that tends to depict unfavourable weather conditions as rather common. These then go on to challenge the humans of the 21st century to rethink the climate reality around us.

Deforestation at the time was in its fledgling stage but also struggling advocates of conservation and sustainability emerged. It is self-evident that the ancient trees were named in an effort to preserve them from the industrial machines devouring them brutally. Sadly, royal forests were also replaced by the new industrial sawpits.

The bio-dynamic farming and green rotations of corn and rye supported ecological resilience and in so doing agricultural yields were boosted. New cultivation techniques were promoted which appeared even then to replace the old ones, regrettably. William Shakespeare mentioned all of these in his work. Environmental consequences were all of a sudden newly visible because they disturbed the resource-and-consumption balances.

The population grew rapidly in the 16th century, particularly in London. Prices skyrocketed when the high demand for timber for the purposes of building Shakespeare’s New Place in Stratford or small theatres in London. These new construction projects appear to have dangerously depleted the local woodlands. There were new fuel-intensive industries such as iron-making for cannons, or for firing glass for windows. There was heavy deforestation which followed which regrettably became the first major environmental crisis in the then England. Faced with the increase in the wood costs, householders at the time turned to coal, which was cheaper but visibly polluting heating alternative.  Through Shakespeare’s eyes, we glimpse the colossal change towards fossil fuels that has risen CO2 in the atmosphere to such high levels now so critically dangerous for the Planet Earth and the whole humankind in the 21st century.

The most pressing ecological threat which we see in Shakespeare’s plays may well be industrial militarization. Shakespeare writes about its multi-level destruction of human and non-human life in late-medieval English warfare and emerging imperial regimes. Apart from the iron-making which caused deforestation, all manner of guns and weaponry needed for instance saltpetre to produce gunpowder. It was made from composted manure taken from private barns and privies by government officers. These forced appropriations then ensued. Farmers made huge efforts to feed growing numbers of people and animals. And they appear to have instigated the first country-wide in England. Regrettably these prove to be unsuccessful environmental protests eventually.

These early modern collisions of economic, national, and environmental interests continue in the imbalance today in between creating local jobs or corporate profits whilst endangering environmental devastation and extinction.

Shakespeare is certainly our eco-contemporary in this day and age in that he envisaged today’s more urgent ecological threats

The heat pump is the ideal solution to save money and reduce CO2 emissions. Find out why!

Are you looking for an ideal solution to reduce heating costs while minimizing the impact on the planet? The heat pump is among the best options for not being dependent on methane gas, to pollute less fighting the energy crisis. In fact, this machine is able to transfer the thermal energy present in the air, in the water, or even in the ground to heat but also to cool the rooms. Let’s see together how it is beneficial for our wallets.

How does the heat pump work?

A technician while he is working with a heat pump
Picture via CanvaPro: a technician while working with a heat pump

The heat pump works like a refrigerator. But in the opposite way: the refrigerator generates cold thanks to external heat while the heat pump obtains energy from the environment and gives it to the house in the form of heating or cooling thanks to the heat exchanger.

The heat pump and the environment

Photovoltaic panels to reduce the emissions.

The heat pump is a perfect solution to reduce the waste of energy and to safeguard the environment. Since it does not produce harmful gas emissions, pollution is reduced. On the other hand, in other cases, pollution is much higher, especially when talking about obsolete heating systems.

Therefore, the European RePowerEu program has established, among the various points, the abandonment of gas boilers in new buildings starting from 2029, as well as the obligation to double the diffusion of heat pumps and install photovoltaic panels on all new buildings.

And, in fact, the energy efficiency of a heat pump is considerably higher if it is combined with a clean energy production plant, and bill savings can reach up to 100%. Not to forget that in this way the environment will also thank you since renewable sources are employed.

Through the combination of a heat pump with photovoltaic panels, you do not burn fossil fuels and therefore there are no carbon dioxide emissions. This certainly increases environmental and energy sustainability.

The advantages of the heat pump

A heat pump while in action
Picture via CanvaPro: a heat pump while in action

Using electric heat pumps, already installed for summer conditioning, and also for winter conditioning means that there is a reduction in electricity consumption which almost reaches a saving of 4 billion cubic meters of gas in 12 months.

By using less methane, you have greater safety as any risks that may be linked to gas leaks are eliminated. In this case, it would also be ideal to adopt the electric induction system for cooking.

Induction system in the kitchen

What is the induction system? Induction requires the use of an electromagnetic system to heat the pans and food.

How many types of heat pumps?

Geothermal heat pump in a wooden house
Geothermal heat pump. Picture via CanvaPro

There are many types of heat pumps:

  • The air-water, which passes the thermal energy that is in the fresh air to the heating system;
  • The air-to-air systems, transfer the thermal energy of the air outside, and inside both to heat and to cool. A classic example is air conditioning with a split system;
  • The water-water type uses the thermal energy present in the groundwater;
  • The geothermal ones, that use the thermal energy coming from the ground.

Are heat pumps really worth it?

Heat exhchanger of a heat pump outside a house covered with snow

As far as energy is concerned, heat pumps are doubtlessly ideal. Starting from 1 kWh of electricity, they produce up to 5 kWh of thermal energy.

Therefore, the energy we have produced in this way will always, and in any case, be greater than that used.

Let’s not forget that the cost of a heat pump for a single building varies from 2,200 euros to 5,000 euros (it is clear that this is an indicative cost and the correct price is given only and exclusively by the professional you will get in contact with) especially since the expense will be amortized quickly by the savings that will be made on the bill.

Compared to another type of boiler (wood or gas), the maintenance of the heat pump is not anything particularly difficult, as it must be done only to ensure that the pump itself maintains its efficiency. Furthermore, smoke tests or an annual check is not foreseen (as it happens for the boiler gas).

The worlds of work and sustainability typically collide, because we prioritize mass production and economic growth over respect for the environment. Hence the wave of climate quitting, a phenomenon that affects all those who quit their jobs because they do not agree with the ethics of the company they work for.

Climate quitting is a kind of silent revolution whose clear aim is to safeguard the environment. It is well known that several companies, particularly multinationals, do not follow green policies. This is because such policies would increase their expenses and slow down their production. But in recent decades, there has been a steady increase in the number of employees who decide to leave their positions because they disagree with the practices of the company and want to invest their time in work that can protect the environment.

Testimonies of climate quitting

Doing climate quitting means adopting a responsible approach towards the working world and moving away from all those businesses that do not adhere to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria. A company should embrace these criteria to ensure that all of its agents involved, including employees, distributors, and customers, care about and respect the environment, society, and governance.

Alice Pomiato, 32, is a climate quitter. In fact, she decided to quit her job as a digital strategist at a communications company. Her choice originated from her awareness that, through her work, she was pushing her clients away from a sustainable lifestyle. With great courage, Alice put her ethics and values first and quit a job that went against her beliefs. Today she is a content creator who raises awareness on the issue of sustainability.

A study conducted by the Milan Polytechnic found that the under-30 age range is the most affected by this problem. One can see how the world outlook changes from generation to generation. On the one hand, adults tend to underestimate the issue, probably because the change has been gradual and they find it hard to believe in it and take action to improve the situation. Younger people, on the other hand, live in a deteriorated world, but they cherish the hope that they can fix it and do their part to safeguard nature.

These days, a lot of media attention is paid to climate issues. It is thus encouraging to see how the youth is willing to fight to protect the world and ensure a better situation for future generations.

Climate quitting is now an established phenomenon that is gaining momentum. This seems to be the source of certain changes which may occur in the very near future.

In fact, the number of employees working in the field of sustainability in companies, what we might call green operators, is rising more and more. There will be an increasing demand for consultants who can advise the company on making changes that wink at sustainability.

Universities all around the world are already moving in this direction. They are indeed promoting academic programs that can apply to a greener idea of life, particularly in the business world.

Greenwashing

This term refers to the fact that, given the increasing attention on eco-friendliness, many companies are adopting tactics to make their production processes and products appear more environmentally friendly. But in reality, they are only taking small steps that do not solve the problem in any way. It is a specific kind of marketing strategy designed to attract customers, who are now increasingly inclined to make informed purchasing decisions.

In fact, Greenwashing is one of the major causes of workers’ climate quitting. The false claims and the refusal to make environmental improvements very often detach employees from the ideas of the company. This moves them to permanently abandon this reality because it is too distant from their own worldview.

Climate quitting may really be the way to combine work and sustainability

To date, there is still a small percentage of employees who decide to quit their jobs because the companies they work for do not follow environmentally friendly guidelines. Rather, the majority sees exploitation, unhygienic working conditions and low pay as their main obstacles.

Climate change cannot be stopped right away: there is still a lot of work to do. However, this does not mean that everyone cannot support this noble cause with a tiny gesture. Climate quitting is a gesture of courage but, above all, of great responsibility. It helps companies understand their employees’ demands and can lead to real policies of environmental awareness. Climate quitting may really be the way to combine work and sustainability.

Many businesses are beginning to recognize the importance of sustainability as the world becomes more environmentally conscious. Long-term financial and environmental success can both be attained through environmentally responsible business practices. Consumers are increasingly gravitating toward companies that prioritize sustainability, and investors are taking notice. But what exactly does being a sustainable business entail? And how can businesses implement sustainable practices while maintaining profitability? Everything from creating products with minimal environmental impact to implementing ethical marketing strategies will be discussed in detail.

Why Sustainability is Important for Businesses

Sustainability

Sustainability has risen in prominence in recent years and for good reason. A corporation’s effect on the natural world, on people, and on the economy grows in proportion to its size and power.

Enterprises should take the initiative to demonstrate their dedication to environmental protection and the long-term viability of their operations. Companies place a high value on sustainable practices because they help them reduce their harmful effects on the environment, cut costs, and improve brand reputation. Sustainable practices can help businesses lower their carbon footprint, preserve scarce natural resources, and cut down on pollution and waste. This is beneficial to the environment and can also save money for the business.

By analyzing and comparing data against industry standards, businesses can identify areas for improvement and incorporate commercial energy benchmarks to help them implement energy-saving measures to reduce costs and environmental impact.

Additionally, by putting an emphasis on sustainability, businesses can earn the respect of their clientele, workers, and the general public. To sum up, businesses that care about their futures cannot afford to disregard sustainability.

Sustainable business practices have many benefits for companies, including lowering their negative effects on the environment, saving money, and gaining a good reputation.

How to Implement Sustainable Practices in Your Business

Implementing sustainable practices in your company necessitates careful planning and dedication. Consider the following suggestions for greening your company:

1. By conducting an energy audit, a company can learn how much power is being used in each department and where savings can be made.

2. You should think about using solar or wind energy to power your company. In addition to lessening your impact on the environment, this will also lower your monthly energy costs.

3. Reduce waste: Implement recycling programs for your company and use as little paper as possible. Encourage your employees to use reusable containers and refrain from using single-use plastics.

4. Choose sustainable suppliers: When selecting suppliers, choose companies that have sustainable practices and use eco-friendly materials.

5. Provide your employees with information on the importance of sustainability and then motivate them to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily routines.

By implementing sustainable practices, you not only contribute to a greener future but also help create a positive image for your business. Customers are increasingly choosing companies that prioritize sustainability, so making these changes can also help attract new customers and retain existing ones.

Socially Responsible Marketing Strategies

Socially responsible marketing strategies are an essential aspect of sustainable business. Consumers today want to purchase products from businesses that care about social and environmental issues.

To be successful in today’s market, companies must show their commitment to sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility.

One way to demonstrate your socially responsible marketing strategy is by creating a sustainability report. This report should identify the environmental and social impacts of your business and detail what you are doing to reduce those impacts.

By being transparent about your environmental and social impacts, you build trust and credibility with your customers. Another way to incorporate socially responsible marketing is by partnering with other companies that share your values. By working with like-minded businesses, you can amplify your message and make a larger impact. You can also use social media to promote your sustainable practices and highlight your partnerships.

Finally, companies can also incorporate socially responsible marketing strategies into their packaging. Using eco-friendly materials and reducing packaging waste can help make a positive impact on the environment and show your consumers that you care about sustainability.

By incorporating socially responsible marketing strategies, businesses can attract a new generation of consumers who prioritize sustainability and ethical practices. Using these strategies, your business could gain an edge in the market, strengthen customer loyalty, and guarantee its continued success.

Measuring and Reporting Sustainability Efforts

Measuring and reporting on sustainability efforts is essential for any business that wants to remain accountable and transparent with its stakeholders. Sustainability is a broad concept, and measuring its impact can be challenging.

However, it is essential to track sustainability metrics to identify areas for improvement and demonstrate progress over time. A sustainability report should include information on the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts. This can include metrics like greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, water usage, waste reduction, employee engagement, and community involvement.

Many companies use third-party certifications or ratings to verify their sustainability efforts. This can include certifications like B Corp, LEED, or Fair Trade or ratings from organizations like the Dow Jones Sustainability Index or CDP. These certifications and ratings provide a way for companies to benchmark their efforts against industry peers and provide assurance to stakeholders that the company is taking sustainability seriously.

Reporting sustainability metrics can also help companies identify areas for improvement. By tracking metrics like energy consumption and waste reduction, a company can identify areas where it is using too many resources or generating unnecessary waste. This information can then be used to implement new strategies and processes that reduce the company’s environmental impact.

In Summary

Overall, measuring and reporting sustainability efforts is critical for businesses that want to create a greener future and achieve sustainable success. By tracking sustainability metrics, using third-party certifications, and identifying areas for improvement, companies can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and create a more responsible and resilient business model.

Any special occasion in sight and still zero ideas? Why not to choose green and sustainable gifts to surprise the people you love, but having an eye for the planet?

Finding environmentally friendly gifts is not easy, but it is a gesture from which can begin a real change of lifestyle. We often talk about sustainability and respect for the environment, but, even without realizing it, in everyday life we make choices that end up having a negative impact on the planet. Therefore, for inverting the route we can start from our daily habits.

Here are some perfect ideas for a green gift!

Green Travel Experience

The ecobnb gift card

To give up any kind of packaging or gifts that simply risk ending up in a corner of the house, why not give time to spend together? Gifts don’t always have to be physically tangible. The perfect gift could be a nice trip, for example, an ecological and sustainable experience.

The perfect solution? The Ecobnb travel gift card for a completely eco-sustainable stay. Who receives the gift card can choose from thousands of ecological hospitality and green experiences unique throughout Italy and the world, from the tree house to the hotel in an ancient village.

Ideal green gift for: those who love to travel

A Pencil To Plant

The idea behind this pencil is really simple: once it becomes too short to be used, instead of throwing it you give it new life. At the end opposite the tip is a biodegradable capsule that contains seeds. Just plant the pencil in a pot and take care of it: the flowers or plants will begin to grow after about a month.

Ideal green gift for: those going to school or who love to write

Green Gifts: The Water Bottle

Why do you always use plastic bottles that you throw away? Much better to choose a more sustainable alternative, such as a steel water bottle. You can use it as often as you want, fill it with water, tea or herbal teas at your leisure and always take it with you, whether it is at school or at work

Perfect green gift for: those who live their days away

Green Gifts: A Forest to Adopt

A very symbolic gift is to give a forest. Adopting a tree is a way to help the environment and safeguard biodiversity, so why not dedicate a tree to the people you love? Instead of the usual banal gifts, this could be a decidedly innovative idea to surprise someone.

Ecobnb offers you the opportunity to give away a forest in Italy that will become secular.

If you have been thinking of which environmentally friendly movie to see any time soon, you might like to have a look at this absolutely brilliant one-minute short film with a rather succinct but a telling title  ‘Waterman’ from India, which has been screened in as many as 32 countries globally.

This one-minute short film Waterman got screened in 30+ countries around the globe as part of a number of international specialized film festivals. In this superbly short film from India, water is personified in a fictional character, which is a portrayal of the daily struggles water has to fight, en route to reaching ordinary people the way the end user tends to misuse it and squander it in vain.

Given that the water crisis tends to be an eye-watering issue all over the world (pardon my pun), this superbly short film Waterman was made within the convenient comedy genre but in the very end it makes a high pitch point with a lot of food for thought for all of us – “Water comes from very far respect it”.

The film is written and directed by Anshul Sinha, a film director from India and Sandeep Sahu plays the role of the waterman Sandeep was the gold medalist in performing arts from Hyderabad Central University. Rajnish Sharma, Devika Das and Shubhang play the supporting roles in the film. The year 2019 meant the beginning of a series of international film festival tours for Waterman

This hilariously funny though short movie Waterman has won six International and three national awards so far. Besides, it has featured in more than 30 international film festivals as well. Anshul Sinha, the film director himself together with Sandeep the main actor in the role of the water personified, was invited to the International Green Culture Festival “GreenFest-Belgrade, Serbia, South East Europe, to attend the special screening in person (where I had the pleasure to meet both Sandeep and Anshul in person).

Waterman: a short summary

His family drama every morning for 60 minutes got this young indie director from India to create a superb short movie. Namely, precious water which tends to be so taken for granted elsewhere in the world is delivered to their tower block every alternate day for as little as sixty minutes during which, their family flat turns into a battlefield with his family members vying for their own turn to get their fair share. There are only three characters in the film, one of which is water itself.

In this film, water expresses pain when humans squander it wastefully. In this personification of water in this short movie, it is being given a face to be able to show her emotions so that humankind starts feeling empathy for it. The Waterman travels to great lengths to supply water to humans wherever they might be needing it. This married couple jumps with joy whenever water comes to their humble abode but when they set about doing their household chores, they waste it unawares.

There is a powerful message in the end: ‘Water comes from far away. Respect it‘. As the saying goes, many a true word is told in jest because there is a good dollop of humor in this short and silent movie. This idea to make it into a silent movie was brilliant because in doing so, it would reach out to the world though in its austere ways deprived of unnecessary linguistic decoration. Silence speaks volumes indeed. So far Waterman has received 20 nominations and eight international awards and the second prize at the International Environment Film Festival held by National Geographic in the USA.
